Artist Mai Hongjun And His Landscape Art (by Li Fang, Deputy Director of Department of literature and art of People’s Daily)

In the exhibition hall of National Art Museum, nearly 100 magnificent landscape paintings of Mai Hongjun construct a long stretching scenery corridor.  These works were created in different periods; some are ethereal, some serene, some overwhelming, but all present his heart journey in art pursuit.

Mai Hongjun was born in Boai, Henan. He had received cultural enlightenment education from the religious scholar and calligrapher Mr. Lin Huanan since he was five years old. After entering elementary school, he learned painting with Mr. Bai He. Then his decided to devote himself to creation practice and theory study of Chinese landscape painting. He also learned Kungfu with masters when he was young. Later he also learned Beijing opera with famous local actor Lu Shulin. When he was 18 years old, he visited landscape painter He Haixia and also benefited quite a lot from her teaching.  However, his art path was not smooth. Much of the time, he roamed around.  Attributed to the appreciation of the President of Beijing Academy of Painting Wang Mingming, he ended his roaming life and was employed into the Academy in 2006.
